About

MEET THE FOOD MILES TEAM

Rachel Bowman, General Manager

Rachel is an award-winning journalist, publisher and professional communicator with one foot in the city and one in the country. She is passionate about sound agricultural practices and great food. She likes nothing better than indulging in sobremesa (the time spent around a table after lunch or dinner, talking to the people you shared a meal with; time to digest both food and friendship – Source: @Berfrois).

Samantha Townsend, Editor

Samantha is a multi-award-winning journalist and beef producer who knows how to tell a yarn. She is a boots-n-all kinda girl whose working life has included busking in the streets at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, riding a bull-cum-dairy cow and driving the Bush Drought Appeal that raised more than $3 million for farmers. She lives and breathes all things Australian producers and produce.

Dorothy Cook, Sub-editor

Dorothy has held senior editorial roles in major Australian newspapers including as a sub-editor and deputy section editor at The Age. She was raised on an organic farm in South Australia in the 1970s, where she first discovered the exquisite taste of a tomato grown 10 metres from the back door. The ethical production of food remains Dorothy’s passion, and she enjoys sharing stories about smart Aussie farmers producing high-quality food while caring for the land and their animals. She also likes eating their bounty! (Preferably with friends over a glass of wine.)

Isabella Hawker, Editorial Assistant

Isabella comes to Food Miles fresh from internships at Christian Dior Parfumes in Sydney, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals in London, and more recently at The Royal Flying Doctor Service in Brisbane. She has a rural background and is in her final year of a Bachelor of Communication and Arts, majoring in Public Relations, Psychology and Criminology at the University of Queensland. She’s our resident clever chick and WordPress whiz.

Kate Hodge, Creative and design

OUR VISION

Hold on tight, we have a community happening here.

People who love to eat, love Food Miles.

You are men and women with an interest in where your food comes from and how it is produced, processed and presented.

You may be skilled cooks or informed diners, or both. You follow food trends but perhaps also have the CWA Cook Book in your cupboard.

Read Food Miles in your favourite café over a week-day lunch or a lazy Sunday brunch. (God forbid it is mashed avo on rye…!) Subscribe now so you don’t miss an issue!

Then lose yourself discussing meat marbling with your companions or planning a trip to the Cradle to Coast Tasting Mile, because Food Miles is a conversation starter.
